Anti Bullying Week: One Kind Word

Anti Bullying Week: One Kind Word

Today is the start of Anti-bullying Week, and this year, the emphasis is on the importance of kindness.

Anti-bullying Week is organised annually by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), and every year, around 80% of UK schools participate in events and initiatives during the week.

Currently, we have a comprehensive framework in place to prevent and counteract bullying, but for this week, we thought we’d follow the example of the Anti Bullying Alliance, and place the emphasis on the positive actions we can all take, in school and elsewhere, to improve our social environments.

At Seend, we've recently held an online safety unit and parents can also find more information about safeguarding against bullying online with the NSPCC project: Speak out, Stay Safe.

Our Principal, Candida Hutchinson says: 'Children feeling safe at school is a key part of our role and we are more mindful than ever of peer relationships in our safeguarding duties'

The Anti-Bullying Alliance is giving out the following call to action:

“Ask if someone’s OK. Say you’re sorry. Just say hey.

In a world that can sometimes feel like it’s filled with negativity, one kind word can provide a moment of hope. It can be a turning point. It can change someone’s perspective. It can change their day. It can change the course of a conversation and break the cycle of bullying.

Best of all, one kind word leads to another. Kindness fuels kindness. So from the playground to Parliament, and from our phones to our homes, together, our actions can fire a chain reaction that powers positivity.

It starts with one kind word. It starts today.”

Although this week is an opportunity for us to focus and address the issue of bullying, we would like to reassure parents, pupils, and staff that every effort is being made throughout the year to make our school a safe, enjoyable, and bullying-free environment.
