Our School Governors
Shaun Cooper – Chair of Governors (Foundation Parent Governor)
I have been a governor since January 2014, and am proud of what has been achieved. It takes patience and determination to achieve our goals, some of which are very ambitious. I endeavour to help the school wherever I can; though my view is not always from an educationalist’s point. I live in Bowerhill and am married to Justine and we have two daughters who are at the school. I am a fully qualified electrical contracts manager and have experience of not just designing and wiring, but running projects to timescales and within financial budgets. I have an open mind and am willing to consider any suggestions put to me. I believe I am a good listener with a balanced outlook on life. My aim is always to help the school travel the path best suited for the education of the children, while upholding the school’s Christian values. I always look forward to working with the team.
Matt Hill – Parent Governor
I have 2 children at the school, and a third due to start Reception in Sept 2017 and have been a resident in Seend Cleeve for the past 10 years. I became a Parent Governor because I want to contribute my time and skills to the school that my children attend and the community that I live in. The governing body is a fantastic group of people to work with and the school is friendly, accessible and high achieving. It stands out not just in its local area but regionally and nationally. We are there to do all we can to help maintain and even improve on these high standards. I have a business and training background, run a local business and am a retired Captain in the Parachute Regiment. General administration, finance, promotion and organisation are all familiar to me. I teach children’s classes in Systema, a self-defence art and life skill, locally and at Seend School. Additionally I teach Systema life skills, Bushcraft and Outdoor skills at several local schools.
Dan Crossman (Parent Governor)
I am currently a deputy-headteacher in another Wiltshire school having previously taught in London and Swindon. I have served on other governing bodies and intend to use my knowledge of education to benefit both the children and staff of Seend Primary School.
Anne Ewing (Foundation Governor)
I have lived in Seend since 2002, but have lived in the area all my life and love Wiltshire. Prior to retirement I was a Human Resources Manager having spent my entire career in Personnel and Development in a variety of organisations both public and private. I took early retirement in 2009 and since then have become actively involved in a variety of community matters. I was already on the Parochial Church Council and am now one of the Churchwardens. This in turn led to supporting the school by being a Foundation Governor. I am enjoying the experience as I have no knowledge of schools aside from my own school years which were very happy.
Fiona Johnson (Foundation Governor)
I retired from full time teaching in 2008 and I’ve worked as a supply teacher since then. I wanted to support Seend School in some way and so I put myself forward as a governor. I enjoy being part of such a successful school and spending time working with the children and staff. My husband and I have lived in Seend for 7 years. We feel very much part of the community. I’m President of Seend WI and I’ve just relinquished the role of Chairman of the Seend Fete Committee.
Sarah Somers (Foundation Parent Governor)
As a school foundation governor I really enjoy the opportunity to support and make a positive contribution to the school and its future development. I currently work full time in the public sector, as the Health, Safety and Risk Manager for Wiltshire Police. Being a school governor provides me with a valuable opportunity to use the professional skills I have learned through work to give something back to the community, which is something I strongly believe in. Having recently moved from Seend, our family now live in Melksham whilst still keeping many community ties with Seend through the school, playgroup and church. My husband and I have two children, one is at Seend School and the other at Melksham Oak.
Mrs Jackie Chalk (Head Teacher Governor)
I have been the Head Teacher at Seend C. of E. Primary School since April 2010. Before that I was the Head Teacher at Keevil Primary School. Since graduating from Reading University with a B.Ed Honours Degree, I have always worked in small, Wiltshire Primary Schools and I have no desire to do anything else! The Governing Body is essential to the successful running of the school as they hold me to account, help make important decisions and support me whenever I need it! On a personal note, I live in Trowbridge, I am married with 2 grown-up daughters and therefore have experienced the primary education system from both sides!
Nicola Coleman (Staff Governor)
I am the deputy head and my role as staff governor is to liaise between the staff and the governors. I represent the views of the teaching staff and pass on information between staff and governors. I sit on the Staffing and Curriculum Committee where I share current developments with the governors, keeping them up to date with relevant issues, strengths and areas for development. I have been at Seend School since 2009 when I moved from Newtown Primary School, Trowbridge. I grew up in Melksham and still live in Melksham with my husband.
