Church and Community Links

As well as the local vicar being a school governor and visiting the school regularly — not only to take acts of worship, but to hear children read and take part in RE lessons — we also visit the church whenever possible.

We hold a variety of services there, including a Christingle service, Harvest, Easter, and a leavers’ service. The church is also used as a resource for RE lessons, with children learning about the different parts of the church and how they are used within a service, and about the different services that are held there and their importance in people’s lives.

Work in the Community

One of the important aspects of the learning we endeavour to develop within the children at Seend C of E Primary School is the contribution they can make to the school and the local, national, and international community. As a result, a variety of events for fundraising are arranged at the school, often instigated by the children themselves. In the school, the children can contribute by being elected members of the school council or by being buddies to the children in the reception class. We also have a head boy and head girl who have designated responsibilities as well as children having a variety of roles and responsibilities within their classroom.

Within the local community, the school choir has sung in various church services, including the Remembrance Service for the Royal British Legion and at local village fayres. The children have been involved in collecting food for Melksham Foodbank and money for Melksham Rotary Club. Nationally and internationally, the children have recently supported Operation Christmas Child, Barnardos, Children in Need, and Comic Reli
